Description:

Produce structural engineering designs and modificationsby identifying project objectives and issues.  Researches and develops structural engineering techniques and approaches.  Reviews structural designs and provides guidance in the use of innovative construction techniques and value engineering alternatives.

 

Duties:
  • Identifies and establishes performance standards.
  • Organizes design projects by identifying short-term and long-term issues.
  • Analyzing projects and providing input with regards to restrictions on the design of the structures based on the technical details of the existing site conditions.
  • Collaborates with engineering design team to develop innovative structural designs.
  • Meets and confer with Architect and Engineers to verify the project requirements.
  • Complies with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Implementing special operations including seismic designs of the structures for various requirements ranging from life safety to until immediate occupancy of the structure after natural disasters like earthquakes.
Qualifications:

Experience Education & Training:

Requires a minimum of five (5) years of complex steel building design accompanied by a Master's Degree in Structural Engineering from an accredited college or university.  Additional experience may substitute for educational requirements.  A Professional Engineering license is required.

Specialized Knowledge & Skills:

The position requires thorough knowledge and understanding of the principles and concepts of commercial building construction and applicable codes and regulations including, but not limited to, IBC, ASCE 7 and AISC codes.  Familiarity with structural steel fabrication and erection is also required.  Strong technical aptitude and high proficiency in the latest version of Ram Structural Systems, ETABS and SAP 2000.  Ability to lead and facilitate team projects.  Ability to thing critically and analytically.  Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting stringent deadlines.  Must have training in steel plate sheer wall and design, special moment frames and special brace systems.  Knowledge of seismic requirements.

Type of Equipment Used:

Microsoft software applications including MS Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

General vicinity of work is performed in and indoor climate controlled office environment.  Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time throughout the day.  Air/road travel may be required at times.
