Production Assistant

Description:Performs tasks related to recruiting and hiring union and non-union personnel.  Includes prescreening, interviewing and coordinating necessary pre-hire tests.  Maintains open communication with shop foreman, department managers and other department heads to maintain current and future hiring needs.

Employment coordinator conducts searches for qualified candidates according to relevant job criteria using various methods such as Internet, media, cold calls, recruiting agencies, employee referrals and networking.  Screens applications and arranges interviews for qualified applicants.  Conducts reference checks and employment verification on selected applicants.  Arranges skill tests and drug tests for selected applicants.  Completes employment verification inquiries.  Places ads in local and out-of-state publications including Internet job board.  Maintains open communication with department heads to stay abreast of company hiring needs.  Maintains current knowledge of pertinent employment laws such as EEO, ADA, FLSA and EPA.  Advises management on organizing, preparing and implementing recruiting and retention programs. Conducts new hire orientations and safety orientations.  Maintains employee personnel files and I-9 files.  Administers E-Verify.


Experience, Education & Training:

High school diploma/general equivalency diploma (GED) and three - five years of directly related experience required.  Or, Bachelors of Science in Human Resource, Business Administration, Business Management or a closely related field and one year of related experience.   


Specialized Knowledge & Skills:

Requires the ability to maintain confidentiality of work items at all times.  Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.  Working knowledge of office routines and business machines.  Self-starter with good interpersonal and communication skills.  Knowledge of principals and procedures for personnel recruitment and selection.  Must be  very computer literate and have the ability to maneuver on the Internet.  Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel


Type Equipment Used:

Uses general office equipment such as a desktop computer, copy machine, fax machine, telephone and printer.


Work Environment/Physical Demands:

Most work is performed in doors in a climate-controlled building.  Position requires occasional air and road travel.
